WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2007 - NEW YORK, NY-The Board of Governors of the Frances Hesselbein Leadership Institute has announced the departure of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Brigadier General Robert E. Gaylord (United States Army Retired), effective November 30, 2007. In light of this transition, the Board has formed a committee to conduct an extensive search to find an appropriate successor.
General Gaylord came to the institute in January of 2006, with myriad leadership experiences in the United States Army, the private sector as a management and strategic communications consultant, and as a member on several boards. He held many commanding positions in the Army, the last of which was Senior Public Affairs Officer. Of his departure, General Gaylord said, "Leaving the wonderful Leader to Leader team was a difficult decision; but in the end, I made the decision to put my family first. I feel blessed to have been a small part of such a dedicated team and received such wisdom and guidance from an exemplary Board." General Gaylord has accepted the position of President and CEO at Industry Data Exchange Association in northern Virginia.
A search committee-six members of the Leader to Leader Board of Governors-has convened to manage the hiring process. In the interim, Frances Hesselbein, Chairman of the Board of Governors of Frances Hesselbein Leadership Institute, will assume the role of acting President to ensure the Institute timely completion of all commitments and continued efforts to further the mission.
Established in 1990 as the Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management, the Frances Hesselbein Leadership Institute is a 501 (c)(3) organization located in New York City. The Institute furthers its mission-to strengthen the leadership of the social sector-by providing social sector leaders with essential leadership resources and support services to lead for innovation and to build vibrant social sector organizations.
